After School Volunteer Opportunities

GRCB BEATS:

Girls Rock Campaign Boston is looking for volunteers to Band Coach amazing BEATS bands!

BEATS is our in-school after-school program. During BEATS, girls and youth with expansive gender identities create music electronically, write and perform original songs, record, create music videos and so much more!

Volunteers act as band-coaches to duos or trios of young musicians and support them on their creative journey. You do not need to have any experience with electronic music to volunteer for this program.

BAND COACH KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
-Support a band as they navigate the challenges of collaboration
-Document the band’s process and organize their materials
-Help set up the BEATS space before programming begins
-Help clean the BEATS space after programming ends

TIME COMMITMENT: 17 hours
-2 hour BEATS orientation
-10 weeks of 1.5-hour programming

QUALIFICATIONS
-Passion for music and/or empowering and supporting youth
-Experience working with youth a plus but not required
-Musical experience a plus but not required

SUPPORT
Onboarding will include a two-hour orientation. Ongoing support will be provided via regular communications with the BEATS Lead Instructor and fellow Band Coaches. GRCB is committed to providing ongoing training and support needed to help volunteers be successful in their roles, additional training and workshops may become available during the BEATS semester.

Youth Activism Project:

GRCB is seeking volunteers to support GRCB’s Youth Activism Project (YAP)! YAP is a free opportunity for girls and youth with marginalized gender identities, ages 13-17 or grades 8-12, to build a supportive community, expand leadership and research skills, and work together to change the status quo. YAP volunteers support YAP youth in their creative and social justice endeavors, in a virtual meeting space! This program is facilitated by GRCB but the issues, education, and action will be youth led.

ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER INFORMATION:

-All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the BEATS session.
GRCB is committed to creating an inclusive environment that supports and welcomes a wide range of marginalized gender identities and expressions. Girls, women, transgender, and gender nonconforming or gender-expansive youth and adults are all part of this community. We recognize that gender is a spectrum, and that language is slow to catch up, so if you feel like this space is for you, it likely is.
-Space for volunteers is limited, please apply early for best consideration.
-All new volunteers will be interviewed and a background check is required for volunteers working with youth.
-All volunteers must attend our mandatory volunteer orientation for their session.
