LRCB F.A.Q.

What is LRCB all about?
Programming for LRCB is similar to what youth do during our summer program: receive instrument instruction, form a band, and work together to write an original song and perform your song LIVE – in just three days! In addition, you will have the opportunity to attend a variety of workshops. There is absolutely no experience needed to attend and we supply all instruments and equipment!

All proceeds from LRCB go directly to helping Girls Rock Campaign Boston (GRCB) continue to provide scholarships for all families who need assistance.

When are the next sessions of LRCB?
Who can apply for LRCB?
LRCB is for women and adults with marginalized gender identities, ages 21 and over, who wants to rock out while supporting GRCB! There is absolutely no musical experience necessary and we will provide all instruments for all who attend. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment that supports and welcomes a wide range of marginalized gender identities and expressions. GRCB/LRCB supports the liberation of people who experience gender based oppression. If you feel like this space is for you, it likely is.

What is the application process for LRCB?
In order to ensure and expand the impact of our mission of bringing the power of collaboration, self-expression and community building to all women, transgender and gender non-conforming adults, GRCB reviews applications to foster fairness and diversity rather than accepting applications on a first come first serve basis. Sign up for our email list to get up to date information on applications and LRCB sessions!

How much is tuition for LRCB?
Tuition for LRCB will be on a sliding scale ($200 – $750) based on how much you are able to contribute to Girls Rock Campaign Boston. There is a $20, non-refundable, application fee. Directions on how to pay will be included once you submit your application.

While GRCB is a small organization, and your LRCB tuition contributes essential funds to support our youth programming, we make sliding scale a priority to work to ensure that LRCB programming is accessible to adults from varying income levels.

Payment plans are available and information on payment plans will be distributed if you are accepted into LRCB’s 2020 sessions. We are able to offer need-based financial assistance to a limited number of participants. Please complete the financial aid section within the application and we will follow up with you to confirm whether we can provide any assistance.

What is included in the LRCB weekend?
Tuition for LRCB covers the full weekend experience with hours of instrument instruction and band practice, band coaching by experienced peer mentors, workshops, visiting performers and the final performance. All instruments and equipment will be provided. Additionally, we provide breakfast, lunch and dinner on Friday and Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. Snacks and beverages are also included throughout the weekend. Please note that this is a 21+ experience and there will be alcoholic beverages offered during our “Night Time Fun Times.”

What is the time commitment for LRCB?
LRCB is an intensive three day, all day, music program. Please check out this sample schedule to be sure you will be able to commit. We program every second of the schedule with purpose and any absence is disruptive to your experience and the experience of your bandmates. You must be able to commit to the full schedule to attend LRCB.

Where are LRCB sessions held?
LRCB will be taking over Spontaneous Celebrations at 45 Danforth St. Jamaica Plain, MA 02130! Spontaneous is a community center with a mission to create and sustain a community cultural life that unites and empowers people for positive change through the arts. There are three floors in the building and the two main floors we use for LRCB programming are wheelchair accessible. If you would like more information about accessibility, please do not hesitate to contact nora@girlsrockboston.org.

Is LRCB an overnight program?
No! Friday and Saturday nights end at 10:30PM and there are no overnight accommodations. If you need a place to stay while attending LRCB, we can try to help you find a host but cannot guarantee that someone will be available to host you. Please provide as much advance notice as possible.

What workshops are offered at LRCB?
Workshops rotate each year but we offer a variety of music, confidence building, and social justice focused workshops. Past workshops have included Combatting Relational Aggression, Pedals & Alternative Sounds, Intersectional Feminism, Screen Printing, Songwriting, and Intro to Beat Making.
